MATTHEW WILLIAMSON
The Matthew Williamson company was founded in February 1997 by designer, Matthew Williamson and business partner, Joseph Velosa.
In September 1997 Matthew Williamson showed his debut collection, 'Electric Angels' during London Fashion Week. Bias cut dresses and separates in tangerine, fuchsia and magenta were shown on models including Kate Moss, Helena Christensen and Jade Jagger. This small collection of colourful, intricately detailed pieces defined the signature of Matthew Williamson. Front-page news editorial followed in British broadsheets and tabloids, as did international coverage in publications including UK, French, Italian and American Vogue.
Following this first show, Williamson's collections continued to grow and strengthen, cementing his reputation as one of the UK's leading designer talents. His achievements in the fashion industry have been recognized consistently: Matthew won Elle designer of the year 2004, he was nominated three times for British designer of the year, and was awarded the 2005 Moet & Chandon fashion tribute. Matthew Williamson is now sold in over 150 stores worldwide.
In February 2002, Matthew showed his first collection during New York Fashion Week. This transition expanded opportunities within the press and attracted a wider audience commercially. The company continues to show in New York and now produces 4 women's wear collections annually. Spring 2005 saw the launch of the first Matthew Williamson fragrance. The company also produces a range of 8 scented candles. All these products are now being sold from the first Matthew Williamson flagship store at 28 Bruton Street, London W1.
Matthew Williamson is regularly worn by a variety of internationally recognised clients including; Madonna, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kate Moss, Kate Hudson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sienna Miller and Helena Christensen.
Williamson's status has led to a careful selection of collaborations with established brands. The most recent projects include a limited edition bottle design for Coca Cola, a range of rugs for The Rug Company, and a limited range of stationary with Smythsons.
