    08 May 2006

I want to thank everyone who made the first Edinburgh International Fashion Festival such a success. That does not just mean the team, every one of whom was so dedicated to making things run like clockwork, but also the Scottish media and the people of Edinburgh, who have given us such unstinted support. I go to fashion weeks all over the world and I know all of the things that can go wrong, which is why I am so proud of Edinburgh because everything went right at our event.

  • Film poll

    24 March 2006

The Edinburgh International Fashion Festival in partnership with the Filmhouse are planning to show some suitably fashionable films as part of the event in April, but we want to hear from you exactly which films you think have had the biggest influence on fashion from over the years.

Our panel of fashion experts have shortlisted the choices down to five and now we’d like to find out which one you think is number one! The choices are:

    • The Women
    • Breakfast At Tiffanys
    • Belle Du Jour
    • The Eyes Of Laura Mars
    • La Dolce Vita

What do you think? Vote now!

Here is what some of our of judges thought:

Friends urge me to cite The Eyes of Laura Mars, 1978’s thriller starring Faye Dunaway as a fashion photographer who scandalises the industry with her shocking photographs of S&M scenarios (actually conceived by none other than the late, great Helmut Newton). Though not a particularly good film, it was nevertheless one of the most talked about releases of the era (at least in my circles) and it can’t help but call to mind the later work of Corinne Day and the rise of Heroin Chic, which caused us all to question our definition of beauty.
Lee Randall: Assistant Editor (Magazines and Arts) for The Scotsman

How could anyone forget Belle Du Jour? Deneuve in all that fabulous Yves Saint Laurent, plus an exuberant dose of s&m sex!!!! (Very Edinburgh, I rather think!!)
John Davidson: Fashion commentator and Creative Director of New Edinburgh

Its got to be the Eyes of Laura Mars or American Gigolo Richard Gere dressed by Armani and looking very smooth.
Nikki Rowntree: Fashion PR and EIFF Creative consultant

  • Welcome

    27 February 2006

After thirty years involved in all levels of fashion I realise more and more that to concentrate fashion in one city London is to ignore the fact that people throughout the UK are fascinated by this modern creative phenomenon which touches us all. I am delighted that the decentralisation of British fashion is taking place in Scotland, a country with its own culture and creativity. I hope that as many people as possible will join us in the exciting programme we have arranged for the first Edinburgh International Fashion Festival.
